Functional Medicine

We have temporarily suspended this service in view of the extraordinary pressure the Covid-19 pandemic is impacting the practice. We will update this information as soon as we resume this service. We appreciate your patience.

Dr Jocelyn Lydford is associated with the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM), which is an organisation that sets the gold standard for education, training and clinical practice globally. IFM explains the practice of functional medicine as "determining how and why an illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual."

Functional medicine covers a wide range of health conditions encompassing but not limited to both the emotional and physiological aspects of medicine. Patients who cannot find long-term health solutions generally seek out functional medicine practitioners.

In managing healthcare for patients choosing the functional medicine approach, Dr Lydford considers a detailed study of a patient's genetic profile, biochemistry and lifestyle factors. She undertakes, in consultation with patients specific tests and evaluations that yield data so that she together with her patient can develop personalized treatment plans, which lead to improved health outcomes, with a lasting benefit.

Appointments

Functional medicine appointments are currently not funded by the Ministry of Health in New Zealand. Due to the detailed clinical investigations required and the personalized plans for functional medicine patients, this requires more than the standard 15-minute medical consults. For best practice, a standard functional medicine consultation is 30 minutes. The fees reflect the extra time spent by the doctor outside of the face to face consultation to create your personalized treatment plan.
13 years and older:
$350.00
for 30 minutes
Under 13 years:
$220.00
for 30 minutes
Follow up appointments will cost the same as above. Once a booking has been confirmed with the clinic reception, please print and complete the applicable forms prior to appointment and bring to first consultation if you cannot return it via email well ahead of your appointment.
